This year's charitable event will use a different concept due to ongoing COVID-19 conditions. Instead of a one day, collective in-person golf tournament at the host golf course, we will allow a one-week timeframe (through June 11th) for DMV area participants to play their competitive rounds at the host course, Pohick Bay Golf Course (Lorton, Va).

We are asking for your help to continue providing college scholarships and tuition assistance to deserving students, and to assist in sustaining the Chapter's community service programs in the Washington D.C. Metro area.

Season 2: Critter Fixers: Country Vets

Season 2: Critter Fixers: Country Vets

Fort Valley State University received a commitment of $50,000 from National Geographic for a full-time undergraduate student majoring in veterinary technology. The media conglomerate including television’s Nat Geo WILD, announced it will  make the donation in honor of FVSU alums, Drs. Terrance Ferguson and Vernard Hodges. The scholarship will be awarded to a student demonstrating financial need and used to pay for tuition, books, supplies, and other fees included in the cost of education.

Ferguson and Hodges majored in veterinary technology while at FVSU and are the current stars of Critter Fixers: Country Vets television show airing on Nat Geo WILD. Both are among the few African American veterinarians in the nation.

“I am extremely proud of National Geographic’s support of diversity and beyond excited to have this scholarship awarded to a deserving student in our honor,” said Hodges. “Less than 2% of veterinarians in the country are black and this scholarship shows how much National Geographic supports the mission of our alma mater.”

Dr. Anthony Holloman, Vice President of Advancement, and Executive Director for the Fort Valley State University Foundation also expressed gratitude for National Geographic’s support of black veterinarians.

“This scholarship will help create a real career pathway for a student who aspires to become a veterinarian,” said Holloman. “It will also further highlight the outstanding academic opportunities that exist here at FVSU for prospective students to study veterinary technology — especially students from underrepresented communities.”

Earlier this week, Nat Geo WILD announced it will renew Critter Fixers for a third season starting in Spring 2022. The show follows Hodges and Ferguson as they encounter unique cases caring for animals between emergency visits to their office and farm calls throughout rural Georgia. The second season premieres tomorrow, Saturday May 22, 2025 at 9 p.m.

34th Annual FVSU Scholarship Luncheon (VIRTUALLY)

As we near the final hours before the virtual presentation of our Annual FVSU Scholarship Luncheon, I want to remind you to tune in to view this live stream event on Monday, February 15 at 12 noon. You may visit the following website www.fvsu.edu/fvsusl to secure tickets, make donations, and to view the live steamed event on Monday.

With the dictates of a COVID environment driving our engagements, we decided to maintain the custom of sponsoring this, our signature fundraising event of the year. A virtual format was our best and safest route in continuing this time-honored tradition. I am happy to report that we have raised $332,946, well over our projected goal of $250,000, and the funds keep coming.

Please visit the website listed in this email to view the leaderboard and the wall of sponsors and donors who have contributed to this effort. We solicit your support in helping us spread the word about this event and encouraging others to give and tune in to Monday’s live program. As customary, we will honor noted supporters of FVSU with the esteemed Maggie Davis Legacy Award and FVSU Honoree Award. A great show has been planned that you will not want to miss.

FVSUNAA In Memoriam "A Celebration of Life" Balloon Release Ceremony

  • Fort Valley State University Quadrangle (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Greetings, Alumni,

The Fort Valley State University National Alumni Association, Inc. will be having "A Celebration of Life" with Balloon Release Ceremony on Friday, October 23, 2020, 5 p.m. EST, on the campus quadrangle of Fort Valley State University. We know that our Wildcats are missing homecoming this year. The clash of the football pads, roar of the Wildcats, the sound of the "Blue Machine Marching" Band, the smell of tailgating and the visual of Wildcat love spread throughout our students, alumni and fans. We understand that feeling. But, there is one thing that we're also missing and that is our fallen Wildcats. We've lost many of our students, young and older alumni not just this year, but the past few years. We have our elderly alumni that reside in living assisted housing that are suffering without visitation from both their families and Wildcat family. During this pandemic, we must be even more vigilant and thoughtful to reach out those alums that we may or may not know to speak life into them. For we, never know what any of our alumni or family member maybe going through.

We're asking our alumni to join us for a virtual balloon release to acknowledge those we've lost and those living in isolation during this pandemic. We hope that you will watch and release your own balloons at your residence in celebration of life of your fellow Wildcats. If you wish to join us on campus, we will be socially distance in this celebration. We hope that you will join us!

It's now more than ever during this pandemic that we find solutions to assist our universities. We would like to introduce an amazing line up of HBCUs for the tour. Fort Valley State University presentation will be an hour. The FVSU University Office of Admissions will be presenting and answering questions from students. We're asking our alumni to pass this email along to our potential students, school teachers and officials to register. Share the information onto your social media platforms and encourage parents and students to join in. The previous tour has amassed 35,000 plus students and we expect to double that amount.
