The Fort Valley State University will host its 32nd annual scholarship luncheon at noon, Monday, February 18, 2019. Doors open at 11 a.m. Sponsored by the FVSU Foundation, Inc., the scholarship luncheon is the largest single-day of fundraiser providing scholarship for FVSU students. The luncheon, themed “Empowering Scholars With the Gift of Excellence,” will be held in the university’s Health and Physical Education Complex. U.S. Congressman Sanford Bishop and Georgia Representative Calvin Smyre will serve as hosts.

The Fort Valley State University National Alumni Association Southern Crescent Alumni Chapter presents the 5th Annual Taste of the Valley. The event will be February 9, 2019 at 5 PM to 8 PM at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 3670 Boulder Park Drive, SW, Atlanta, GA 30331. Tickets are $20 and the attire is cosmopolitan. The taste of Fort Valley is a food tasting event that will allow you to sample foods from multiple restaurants, caterers and speciality shops while listening to music from local musicians. The Taste of Fort Valley raises funds to support students attending Fort Valley State University by providing scholarships. Tickets can be purchased from any southern Crescent Alumni Chapter member. The 2nd Annual King Hardwood Classic pits the Wildcats of Fort Valley State University versus the Maroon Tigers of Morehouse College. The game will be played on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Wintrust Arena, 200 East Cermak Road, Chicago, Illinois 60616 at 3 pm. Tickets starting at $25. The game is hosted by the BCSG 360, a non-profit organization, with the mission of connecting urban youth to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). One private and one public school will participate in a single game match-up estimated to welcome 6,500 fans to Chicago, IL. King Hardwood Classic – NCAA College Basketball event is soon to become one of the premier HBCU Sporting events in the country. Proceeds from this event will benefit the participating colleges/universities, both the United Negro College Fund and Thurgood Marshall College Fund, and local Chicago charitable organizations.

COACH LOMAX BRIEF LEGACY:
Born in Athens, GA, great high school & college coach whose career in the Peach state spanned 29 years (1948-1977). At Risely High School in Brunswick, GA, he led his football team to the 1950 & 1957 state championships while compiling a 101-36-4 mark. His 1950 team scored 427 points & allowed only 35. He also won 2 state titles in basketball and 5 consecutive titles in track & field. Coach Lomax became head football coach at Fort Valley State College in 1963 & stayed until 1977. With a solid record of 86-33-1, his teams captured 4 SIAC footbll championships & twice competed in the NCAA playoffs. In 1972, Lomax’s Wildcats became the first all-black college football team to be featured on an ABC-TV regionally telecasted game. He was named SIAC Football “Coach of the Year” 4 times. He was also the head basketball coach of the Wildcats from 1963-1967. He is inducted in both the Fort Valley State College Alumni Hall of Fame in 1979 & the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Hall of Fame in 1986.
The Fort Valley State University Washington DC Metro Area Alumni Chapter would like to welcome you to our Blue & Gold Holiday Social on Saturday, December 8, 2018 from 6 pm to 10 pm to recognize and to reflect on the year of service, giving, and the Wildcat Spirit. The location of the event will be held at Eagles Pointe Clubhouse, 16387 Kramer Estate Drive, Woodbridge, VA 22191. Tickets are $30 for a single person and $40 for a couple. The event attire is business casual. There will be live jazz music performing holiday melodies throughout the evening. A guest speaker will be announced at a later date.

Since 1895, Fort Valley State University has empowered people to use education as a pathway to maximize their potential through invention, intellectual fulfillment, civic leadership, and meaningful careers. The Office of Alumni Relations introduced the establishment of The Fort Valley State University 1895 Society. It’s a way of honoring our founders and perpetuating a meaningful lifetime connection to our dear ole alma mater, Fort Valley State. The FVSU 1895 Society is established to celebrate the legacy of these pioneers. It is an opportunity for the graduating class, both undergraduate and graduate students, to express their generosity and foresight for next generation scholarships for students seeking an education that will benefit them for the rest of their life. In doing so, their names will be listed and printed as members of The FVSU 1895 Society and they will receive a blue and gold cord twist which can be worn as part of their academic attire during 2018 fall commencement.A minimum donation of $18.95 is required to be a member.
